Lemon Gelato DigestiveThis marvelous concoction would be served between the first and second course of dinner or immediately after cheese. The lemon and alcohol help clean the pallet and the digestive tract. There are two versions according to the place in the dinner that they are served. The version with Prosecco is perfect between courses while Vodka is a perfect after dinner drink. Cool with a little bite, Sgroppino goes down easily even on a full stomach.
Sgroppino would be made with Lemon Gelato instead of Sorbet. Several years ago we could find the Lemon Gelato at a Gelatteria here in Dallas, however they decided that it was more important to have the American Heart Association sticker on their Icecream rather than maintaining Italian Traditions. Believe it or not the owners, who are great people, are both Italian...
If you can find Lemon Gelato, eliminate the Heavy Cream.
Sgroppino - Between Course Digestive
2 cups (16 oz) lemon sorbet, softened
1/3 cup Dry Prosecco
4 Tbsp Heavy Cream
Chill 4 to 6 champagne flutes.
In a bowl, whisk lemon sorbet until smooth. Gradually whisk in the cream and Prosecco.
(All ingredients may also be mixed in a blender.)
Pour mixture into a pitcher and serve immediately in chilled champagne flutes.
This drink will separate if left standing.
Sgroppino - After Dinner Digestive
3 cups (24 oz) lemon sorbet, softened
1 Cup Dry Vodka
6 Tbsp Heavy Cream
Chill 4 to 6 champagne flutes.
In a bowl, whisk lemon sorbet until smooth. Gradually whisk in the cream and Vodka.
(All ingredients may also be mixed in a blender.)
Pour mixture into a pitcher and serve immediately in chilled champagne flutes.
This drink will separate if left standing.
