Italian Women’s Fashion Winter 2007 – Gai Mattiolo

I highlighted the Gai Mattiolo line in the 2006/2007 Fall Winter overview. The temperatures in Milan are dropping and the new styles are appearing on the street. As often happens there are some parts of a designer’s line that are more successful than others and in some cases they are put together in a way that is completely different than the designer’s vision.
This year’s “on the street” wearable fashion is no different. Gai Mattiolo is experiencing great success even though it does not seem to be exactly the way he envisioned it. The Mattiolo Collection based on the late 70s and 80s theme. The twist is the addition of leather and clothes imitating leather, fur and embroidered fabrics. The personalization part of the collection has taken hold. Every woman is an individual even though the cut of the outfit may be the same the embroidery is different, assuring that no matter how popular the design, every woman is unique.
Some of the most confident are keeping the fur trappings but generally they are not part of the everyday attire. The heavy stockings with glittering sequels have also made the grade. The most popular colors seem to be the gold, purple, brown and black.
The leather and leather textured velvets are especially hot. Wide mid-drift reptile belts and shiny buckles divide the outfit and create clean lines.
The nightclub scene is particularly hot with tight fitting sequel chemise and bodies. Flowing silk tops in 80s colors complete the look.
Gai Mattiolo put together a great collection this year. It is very wearable in different occasions and can be mixed and matched without too much attention. If you are on a budget this year Gai Mattiolo has created an opportunity to have numerous looks with very few pieces in the collection. This is definitely worth a look.
Thanks to Luca Lazzari for the fantastic photographs.

David! C'est moi (formerly AY). Thanks for the email btw., much appreciated.
As for this collection - apart from the awful use of FUR, the pieces are lovely. Esp. the three in black. WOW!

ChickyBabe I am not a real fan of purple, I like it but I can get tired of it real soon. But I really like the collection, and it seems to be getting quite a bit of wear in the clubs.
Dos Centavos Congrats on the move.
Yes, I know we differ about the fur. I also think the black are fantastic.

Natalie Gai Mattiolo is one of Raffaella's favorite. She went crazy over the lace top also.
